Create a meditation piece to lead you into a new year of creative discovery!
Join artist Laurel True for this weekend workshop during which students will explore personal inspirations and manifestations to help launch them into the New Year with renewed creative energy.
Working with mixed media including text, collage, and mosaic, workshop participants will create a mosaic piece to take home that will center around a symbol that has resonance and personal meaning, as well as including elements and inclusions that support personal goals and desires moving forward.
Laurel will offer short, guided writing exercises and prompts to help students connect with what they would like to manifest and create in the New Year, and sample patterns will be offered of universal symbols of reflection, mindfulness, renewal and empowerment that can be adapted and personalized.
Workshop will focus on use of glass mosaic and mixed media. A variety of interesting materials will be provided. Students are welcome to bring special materials with them such as collage materials, text, found or collected items or anything else that holds special meaning.
Additional techniques covered:
Working with mosaic tools and techniques for glass
Collage/ use of imagery and text under glass
Use of texture and combined media. Working with special inclusions such as jewelry, beads and personal items
Creative use of iridescent, metallic and mirrored tesserae
Layering tesserae
All materials and 10” diameter round substrate provided. Grouting will be optional and Laurel will present technical approaches to both grouted and ungrouted pieces.
